Fibaro has recently announced the second generation of the Door/Window Sensor.
Fibaro’s new Door/Window Sensor 2 is more than just a smart sensor. Temperature measurement features, compact size, and compatibility with your Z-Wave hub makes it perfect for smart homes.
The Door/Window Sensor 2 is wireless and has a 2-year battery life for the replaceable battery. It can initiate scenes or sequences when triggered by the opening or closing of doors or windows. Other interactions are possible as the device detects a separation between the sensor’s body and magnet.
The sensor also has a temperature sensor that can notify you when the temperature reaches a certain threshold. This functionality allows the smart sensor to notify you if a window is open while the AC or heat is on in your home.
Fibaro recommends to use the sensor on garage doors, safety gates, pet doors, and roof windows.
When used with other smart devices, you can program the Door/Window Sensor to initiate advanced scenes.
It can send reminders to close windows based on the weather, or before you leave for work according to your schedules.
The sensor can also notify you when medicine cabinets or other secure places are opened.
Tampering detection is built-in, so the sensor will notify you if there are any attempts to open or remove it.
The Door/Window Sensor 2 is rather compact when compared to other sensors on the market.
In addition to its size, color variations ensure that the sensor seamlessly blends into your doors and window frames.
Depending on how you configure your smart home, the Door/Window Sensor 2 works with Apple Homekit or with any Z-Wave device.
The Homekit compatible version allows control through Siri and from iOS devices. The Z-Wave version ensures better battery life and a wider range of operations for the wireless communication between the sensor and your smart hub.
