Sad news for the IoT this week : after Nest being shut down by Google, the giant Husqvarna will turn down Koubachi’s servers in 2018 making the Koubachi plant sensor useless.
The group Husqvarna has bought Koubachi last year, making it part of the Gardena Smart System division.
Koubachi was one of the precursors of IoT in gardening. Its famous Plant sensor measures, amongst others, soil moisture, sun and infrared light, ambient temperature. With its plants knowledge and its weather forecast data, Koubachi’s sensor was one of the best on the market.
This news raises again the issue of connected objects being Cloud-dependent.
